A MOTHER whose 14-year-old daughter was found dead in her bedroom says the loss has left her "absolutely devastated". Sharon Gore's teenage daughter, Laura, was found hanged at her home in Alvaston. An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned while investigations are carried out, but Sharon says she is convinced Laura did not intend to kill herself. Mrs Gore, 43, said: "The night before she was laughing and joking – we just can't understand what happened. "She'd been out to walk the dog and had gone to bed at about midnight. "She wasn't depressed at all. It's such a terrible waste of a young life." Tomorrow, the teenager's school will open its doors to Laura's family and friends ahead of the new term to try to aid the healing process. Sharon and Laura's father, Dave, 48, say they have been overwhelmed by messages of support. Laura was born at Derby City General Hospital in 1995 and had lived in the same house in Alvaston all her life. She attended Oakwood nursery, infant and junior schools before moving to Noel-Baker Community School and Language College, where she was about to enter Year 10. Laura's foster sister, Mary, 16, said: "She was not afraid to speak her mind. I still can't believe what has happened." Sharon said her daughter had lots of friends and a "wicked sense of humour". She said: "She took videos of her dad and put them on Youtube. There was one of him falling off a chair and another of him asleep, when she put squirty cream on his hand, and he rubbed it on his face. "She loved playing practical jokes." Laura particularly enjoyed drama at Noel-Baker and was part of the Derby Youth Theatre, run as an extra-curricular activity at the school. Her drama teacher, Andy Price, described Laura as "a model student" who "always put 100% effort and commitment into her work". Mr Price, who is also head of the Youth Theatre, said: "It is rare to have students as young as Laura in the workshop, but Laura shone through." Laura performed in Happy Hour, the last performance given by Derby Youth Theatre. Thomas Marshall, deputy head teacher at Noel-Baker, said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by Laura's tragic death. All our heartfelt sympathies go to her family and friends. "Laura was a sociable and very confident young lady who appeared to love life and took joy in her friends. "She will be sadly missed by those around her at Noel-Baker." The teenager was predicted to pass all her GCSEs with C grades and above. Laura also loved music, particularly the band,MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, watching football – she kept tickets from Derby County matches – animals and reading. She also leaves stepbrothers Thomas, 22, and David, 19. Noel-Baker is open to Laura's family, friends and classmates, who can visit the Upper School Hall from 10am to midday tomorrow to talk about the teenager's life
